I am a junior (or senior, depends on who you ask) at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. I am majoring in Computer Engineering and minoring in Mathematics. I went to Waukee High School and Central Academy, and graduated in 2004.
Linux, programming, networking, computers, TI calculators, and security.
I have my schedule for this year on my website.
I have a profile on the Facebook, an online directory for college students. I read slashdot a lot, so I have an account there. I'm usually on the Freenode IRC network, and I help run the ChekMate IRC network, which is focused on security. Either one of these is a good way to contact me if I'm SSHed back here - which is most of the time.
This site was developed by hand (well, using vim) using XHTML 1.1 and CSS. This allows my pages to be smaller and faster while being easier to write. They are also more easily viewed in text-based browsers like lynx or indexed by search engines. If you know HTML, look at this page's source code and its basic stylesheet. CSS also allows easy changes to the colors or layout - try the style buttons in the menu.
For most of the pages on this site, I use a wiki-like perl program called mkXhtml that I wrote to produce the page.
This lets me type {strong;text} instead of <strong>text</strong>.
For the other pages, I either use Apache's server-side includes or a specific CGI script written in perl.
This allows me to have an identical menu across all the pages on my site, and to update them all at once. I can also change and update page styles quickly.
Last year, I ran this server on an old IBM dual-Pentium II 266MhZ. Since I got a laptop, I converted my P4 to Linux, so it's running this site, along with mail, IMAP and SSH servers. I am running Debian unstable. I run Linux (KDE) on my main desktop, with a VMware image of Windows Server 2003 for those programs that lack a Linux version. My laptop (Dell Latitude D510) also runs linux, and has finally solved all its problems with the 2.6.18 kernel.
I also have a little information about you.
